The Great Kill IE 6 Challenge of 2008

February 27th, 2008 by nima

Ok I am laying this down. Obviously not many people read this blog hopefully word gets out. I am giving any virus writer 10K, thats 10 Thousand Dollars if they can successfully write a virus that breaks into windows machines and upgrades them to IE 7. All contestants must at least upgrade 100k machines , and go through a code review prior to ‘trigger’ so I can make sure they are not malicious. All contestants have a 3 month window from the ‘trigger’ date. I’m going to make an organized page for this eventually but this is just to start. Twitter me or email me if you are interested. If others want to donate to the fund to make it more of a inciting proposition feel free to contact me.

Aptana Studio - A great idea that’s almost there

January 1st, 2008 by nima

I really like the idea of Aptana Studio. Where as most IDE’s partake in javascript bigotry , Aptana embraces the black sheep turned black bull that is Javascript. For that reason alone I shelled out the requisite 99 bucks, I’m not so sure I’m going to use it on a day to day yet. Afterall I still answer to the dark and powerful call of TextMate. But one day and maybe one day soon, I’ll make the switch. By the way I’ve also used netbeans 6 a good deal. It’s debugger is great, but it wasn’t enough for me to step away from TextMate. I’m thinking the rich integration of javascript with Aptana will be what I need to break free from TM’s grips once and for all.

The new UI: The blog roll

November 23rd, 2007 by nima

Look around , the best app UI’s now adays mimic blogs. But instead of posts they use some other navigational idiom , plant it against time in descending order , and surround it with rich metadata. It works in alot of cases and I think is a format people are intuitively comfortable with.

SeaSide learning from Rails

November 16th, 2007 by nima

The “heretic” framework SeaSide , is fairly awesome. It does alot of things that are pretty interesting. A major gripe on why its adoption rate has been slower than say Rails ,  is that it was confusing to get up and running. No more! Check it out: http://news.squeak.org/2007/11/10/seaside-one-click-experience/

Is enterprise the new secret garden?

November 15th, 2007 by nima

Lately I have been thinking that a lot of very solid new apps , that have trouble gaining traction in the more ‘grassroots’ consumer space would do amazingly well in the enterprise market where that same product is backed up by a handshake and a smile. I know it sounds silly but I think there I’m on to something.  I’d love to know of any stories of failed consumer space products , that simply turned around white-labeled they’re product and did well in the enterprise space.

Message to OpenAds - Great Idea , But You Suck

November 7th, 2007 by admin

How does a company with millions of dollars in VC , and assuming at least 40 man hours a week ,  produce such a hard to use , poorly thought out system. It’s only saving grace is that its open source and thus free. I’ve had an idea for a long time to create a competitor. I think I just might do it because I’m mad as hell and I just can’t take it any more.I refuse to live with crap software that is used only because the rest of the entire world is too lazy to make a better one.So here I come.

OpenSocial: How and Where do you start?

November 4th, 2007 by admin

You’ve read about it, thought of a great idea to use it, so now what?

OpenSocial is only available through google gadgets at current. There is no server side library yet. Furthermore access to OpenSocial ‘containers’ is limited to the Orkut Sandbox, are there any other networks who implement the OpenSocial SPI that are open right now?

OpenSocial is a standard , Google has released a library for google gadgets that works to this standard.

Ajaxian does a good start job of giving a basic basic primer

OpenSocial is AtomicallySocial

November 4th, 2007 by admin

OpenSocial is an AtomPub Based Technology. If you’ve ever used GDATA API this is nothing new.

But for those who haven’t , What in the world is AtomPub?

From wikiP:

“The name Atom applies to a pair of related standards. The Atom Syndication Format is an XML language used for web feeds, while the Atom Publishing Protocol (APP is the acronym, but it is referred to as ‘AtomPub’ for short) is a simple HTTP-based protocol for creating and updating Web resources.”
